Ronnie Love originally recorded “Chills & Fever” for Dot Records in 1960 and then re recorded and released a new version in ’61 as Johnny Love And The Orchestra on Startime Records. I personally think the second version on Startime is a little more laid back and vibey and has a stronger sax solo. They’re both great though. Between 1960 and 1961 Startime released only three singles. The three singles include this one, along with “Shakin’ and Breakin” by Ronnie Love, and “You On My Mind” by Walter Brown & Art Clyde Combo. This is our third HARD R&B track this week…to say that we’re having fun recording these songs is an understatement.
