This tune was originally recorded by singing cowboy & traditional country performer Jimmy Wakely. It was written by Tin Pan Alley songwriter Vaughn Deleath, who was a singer-performer known for her deep reedy voice. Some say Vaughan may have played a significant part in the development of early jazz singing. Jimmy Wakely became one of the West Coast’s most well known country music performers. He grew up in Oklahoma, travelled on medicine shows and became a regular on Gene Autry’s Melody Ranch tv show on CBS. He soon started recording for Decca Records and appeared on a number of country music tv shows in the 50s and 60s. Here’s our take on Jimmy Wakely’s “It’s A Lonely Trail”
