If You See Mary Lee

____if you see mary leeiTunes//Amazon//Spotify

This song was first released as simply "Mary Lee" by the Rainbows on Boston's Pilgrim Records in 1956. Then, two years later they re-recorded it and called it "If You See Mary Lee" which was the first single for the Los Angeles record label Firefly (Jan-Lar) Records in 1958. Firefly (Jan-Lar) put out singles in 1958 like How Will I Know by The Strands, Car Crash by the Cadets, and tunes by the Castle-Tones,The Ontarios, and the Rocketeers. This is our take on If You See Mary Lee.

Happy 4th of July everyone.

Dance Dance Dance

Dance Dance Dance is a song originally recorded by Newark, NJ's Pearl & The Deltars. It was the B Side to Teenage Dream, which came out on Fury Records in 1961. Fury was a Harlem based record label started by Bobby Robinson who lived to be 93 years old. He ran Fire and Fury records in the late 50s- early 60s, and produced songs like Sugar Babe by Buster Brown, Jack That Cat Was Clean by Dr. Horse, Gravy Train by Riff Ruffin, along with singles by Wilbert Harrison who recorded the original Kansas City- later done by The Beatles, and also put out singles by Little Joe Cook, Lee Dorsey, Little Junior Lewis and a pre-Motown Gladys Knight. Fury and Fire artists were predominantly heavy duty R&B vocalists. Pearl & The Deltars, were made up of first tenor-Carl Williams, second tenor-James Straite, baritone-Luther Morton, bass-Bootsie Aaron Brodnick, and lead vocalist Pearl McKinnon. Pearl also wrote and performed with the Kodaks- who were Doo Wop royalty. We got the Interrupters as the backing band on this one. Aimee and Jordis are singing background together on one microphone, which gives it that late 50s early 60s mono vibe. This is our take on Dance, Dance, Dance.

Step Down

****STEP DOWNiTunes//Amazon//Spotify

I bought Sick Of It All's first seven inch back in the late 1980s, and ever since then I've just always loved their unique style.
After listening to their music, and keeping up to date with what they were doing, I wrote some letters to the band, and Rancid ended up playing with them for the first time in 1993 at City Gardens in Trenton, NJ, and we've remained friends ever since. Last month I saw SOIA play in Quebec, and they are as strong as ever. Simply put, they're just built to last, and they're still one of my favorite bands.

Here's our take on one of their classics, "Step Down".

Hang Out The Front Door Key

This one was originally done by The Blue Sky Boys- Earl and Bill Bolick who hailed from East Hickory NC. They named themselves in tribute to the Blue Ridge Mountains- "The Land Of The Sky". They got their start crooning on the radio in North Carolina back in 1935. Mostly trad ballads and gospel songs. Considered one of the best country vocal duets, they influenced the Everly Brothers and the Louvin's. This is our take on it. Have a great weekend everybody!

Los Angeles Is Burning

____LOS ANGELES IS BURNING

Los Angeles Is Burning is written by one of my favorite people of all time and Rancid's long time producer Brett Gurewitz. The original version is on Bad Religion's 'Empire Strikes First' album. This is our acoustic take on it.
