The Beatles hadn't yet landed on the shore to overtake the U.S, when this song came out. America in 1963 was still doin' their own thing..listening to Steve Lawrence, Paul & Paula, The Four Seasons, Chiffons, Bobby Vinton, The Singing Nun. JD Loudermilk was making a mark in Nashville as a songwriter for the Everly Brothers, Johnny Cash and Chet Atkins. He co-wrote this high-water mark of an American Country song with Bob Gibson for singer George Hamilton IV.

When It's Springtime in Alaska

I heard that the Red Dog Saloon drinkin' establishment in Juneau is the oldest man-made tourist attraction in Alaska. The Red Dog was founded in Juneau's mining days. Shout outs to the 49th State, The Caribou Crawl and Kodiak Rugs. A #1 hit for the late great storyteller Johnny Horton on the Country & Western charts. We took a bonafide musical sled dog ride through frozen tundra on this one.

When I was a kid I could look out from my front porch and see the Golden Gate Bridge and San Francisco and imagined what lied beyond the horizon. I used to read books about that bridge and how it was built and all that shit, and later I started writing songs about it. It must be some sort of muse for me.

Life's for Livin'

This song is about a kid who was born and lived in the same neighborhood. Needing a change of scenery the kid seeks something bigger by leaving home to set out and do some livin', instead of waiting for life to happen.
